I’m all about living theology, and as a West Coaster, I’m open-minded and believe that people find their “source” in many different ways. I get that. But my “State of the SMB Union” is simple: stay positive. I’ll explain that in many different ways with this blog.
RR’s Facebook Post:
Looking for a way to be more successful at anything? Hang around with, associate with and engage with people who are SUCCESS-minded people. People who focus on positive achievement and HOW to achieve success, NOT who find every cynical reason why something can't be done...why it's too hard, too expensive, too good to be true. Befriend people who don't constantly gripe, complain and find fault. Listen to people who focus on SUCCESS rather than failure, the positive WINS rather than the struggle. These are the people who encourage you and BELIEVE in YOU in the moments in life when you don't believe in yourself. Here's a little exercise: Honestly assess what you watch and read...are they a fountain or a drain?
What RR (aka Robin Robins) is saying is pretty clear. I’d offer if you want to be unemployed, hang around with unemployed people. ‘Nough said.
From Within
Having raised a couple of teenagers, I can safely say that you can’t legislate success. It has to come from within. You either want it or you don’t. Case in point is my eldest son Geoff. Largely by his own efforts, he’s earned a congressional nomination to attend the US Naval Academy at Annapolis next fall after high school. How did he do it? Certainly his inner-Geoff drove his desire, but I’d also offer he surrounded himself with successful people along the way:
- Boy Scouts: In no small part his success in earning his Eagle is directly correlated to hanging out with good kids.
- Band: He has participated in four years of high school marching band and the summertime DCI tour. Again, good successful kids…
- And all the rest : sailing, skiing, church group, etc. where highly functional people congregate.
I rest my case. Have a great 2014 and stay positive!
