Earlier today, Seagate Technology, PLC announced the addition of Seagate Business Storage in both 8-bay 1U and 4-bay rackmount arrays. These new additions to the company’s portfolio are designed for SMBs to backup both Windows and Mac machines, and can store between 4 and 32 TB of data.
The 8-bay and 4-bay arrays can be managed from a web-based dashboard and a Wuala app allows users to securely access files from mobile devices. Seagate explained that the 8-bay rackmount (4 to 32 TB) has an Intel 2.3 GHz dual core processor and is designed for organizations with up to 250 employees. There are eight drives, each measuring 3.5 inches, which can be swapped out while the system is running. The 4-bay rackmounts (4 to 16 TB only) have an Intel Atom 2.13 GHz dual-core processor, Seagate NAS HDD drives and 2GB of RAM.
“Thousands of small and medium businesses around the world already depend on Seagate NAS solutions. Now we’re taking the lead by delivering the industry’s highest density storage solution,” said Scott Horn, Vice President of Marketing, Seagate, in a press release today. “With the industry’s first hot-swappable 8-bay 1U rackmount NAS and our new 4-bay rackmount NAS, our new solutions will take the lead in this category with top performance and the highest capacity at an approachable price point for our SMB customers.”
These new rackmounts are expected to be generally available in October 2013.
