Yesterday, Red Hat, Inc., an open source solutions provider, announced the addition of two new Open Hybrid Cloud product offerings at the Red Hat Summit 2013 in Boston, MA. The Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure, both to be available this July, will allow users to either begin their path to virtualization, or create more advanced clouds for their customers. The company also announced the addition of new training and certification programs for the new offerings.
“Customers have been looking for a leader to step forward and address the enterprise requirements for OpenStack, including stability, a broad partner ecosystem, a predictable lifecycle, and world-class support. Today, we’re excited to step forward and deliver against that. The debut of Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure mark a defining moment for both Red Hat and OpenStack adoption in the enterprise,” Paul Cormier, president, Products & Technologies, Red Hat.
Red Hat explained that the new Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform solution is designed for advanced cloud users, such as telecoms, who are looking to create scalable public or private clouds. The solution is a single subscription for two technologies: the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server, and the Red Hat OpenStack technology. The Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server provides the framework for the OpenStack tech, and will allow users to develop and deploy OpenStack clouds with military-grade security.
The Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure offering, like the above-mentioned Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform, is a combination of existing Red Hat technologies. The new infrastructure offering is built on four technologies, including the OpenStack and Enterprise Linux solutions mentioned above. The additional technologies are the Red Hat CloudForms and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization. Red Hat CloudForms is based on the company’s recently-acquired ManageIQ technology, and is an open hybrid cloud management system for existing and new infrastructures. The Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization provides datacenter virtualization services for Linux and Windows.
The second part of today’s announcement covered the addition of Red Hat OpenStack Administration training, as well as two new certification programs for Hybrid Cloud and OpenStack IaaS expertise. The new training course is a series of hands-on labs to show system admins how to install, configure and maintain Red Hat OpenStack Clouds. Of the two new certification programs, the Hybrid Cloud track is available now, while the OpenStack IaaS will be open in August, 2013.
