Today, Ovum, Ltd., a London-based analyst firm, announced the results of their Ovum Decision Matrix: Business Intelligence and Anlytics for Telcos, Jan 2013 report. Ovum’s findings highlighted the top three current BI vendors for telco organizations, as well as common industry roadblocks.
According to Ovum, the top three BI and analytics vendors for telco organizations are Oracle, IBM and SAS. Oracle in particular was recognized for their ability to integrate BI and analytics elements into a single solution. IBM was noted by Ovum for having a sophisticated BI and analytics portfolio, while SAS was listed as a leader in advanced analytics. These three companies, however, are a rarity in the current market.
Shagun Bali, Telecom Analyst at Ovum, offered insight on the report findings in a press release today: “Just a handful of vendors have created truly pre-built departmental models; others believe that each telco requires a certain level of customization, so they create a unique model each time.”
Ms. Bali also highlighted that the key issue for vendors is that there currently is no clear path to an integrated view solution. In addition, many vendors are still encountering difficulty with integrating IT and network data. Ultimately, telco organizations are turning more towards analytics/Business Intelligence solutions to provide a “360 degree customer view.” Ovum explained that today’s telcos are moving more towards a software-based environment and that the push for analytics/BI will help these organizations make better business decisions.
