Microsoft Expands MSSA Program to Include Bases in CA, TX

Microsoft LogoEarlier today, Microsoft announced that it has expanded its recent Microsoft Software and Systems Academy (MSSA) to include two new military bases in the Southwest. The two additions are Camp Pendleton in California, and Fort Hood in Texas, which are two of the largest bases in the country.

What is the MSSA? Well, this is a 16-week program, first launched in 2013 at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State that works with eligible U.S. active-duty, transitioning service members to gain specialized IT training. In fact, these active-duty service men and women have access to a customized curriculum, interactive training sessions, mock interviews and access to volunteer Microsoft employees, with whom the service members can connect via Skype and Lync. The final step is the opportunity for these program members to interview with Microsoft, and/or gain the tools they need to successfully interview with other technology organizations in their area.

“Training programs like the Microsoft Software & Systems Academy offer excellent opportunities for our transitioning service members,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Douglas R. Gault, U.S. Garrison Fort Hood. “The beauty of programs like this is they develop the necessary skills that complement the talents of our service members while they are still in the Army — skills that translate into real job opportunities before they transition into civilian life.”

The MSSA is also connected to Microsoft’s YouthSpark initiative, a global program that works to help today’s youth get the necessary technology skills for the changing job market.

“These military bases are home to some of the most talented, dedicated professionals our country has to offer,” said Microsoft Vice President of Military Affairs Chris Cortez. “We've expanded our program because we want more transitioning service members to have the opportunity to pursue rewarding careers at Microsoft and other technology companies.”

As of this writing, Microsoft has reported that 90+ active-duty transitioning service members have either completed the program, or are benefitting from the training. For more information about this program, please visit the site at: WeStillServe.com/MSSA
