Yesterday, Infonetics Research released excerpts from their Q42012 Service Provider VoIP and IMA Equipment and Subscribers report. The report excerpts showed areas of growth, the first in nearly four years, as well as changing trends in the IMS and VoIP space.
This quarterly report from Infonetics Research tracks various companies to produce global and regional findings on the health of the trunk media gateway and other VoIP equipment market. Findings often include commentary on the market size, as well as any market share changes.
The key Q42012 findings released yesterday by the analyst firm include:
- The top 3 VoIP and IMS market leaders were Huawei, Alcatel-Lucent and GENBAND.
- With the expansion of IMS networks, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Nokia Siemens and ZTE were among the vendors seeing sequential revenue growth.
- Overall Global sales numbers for VoIP and IMS equipment topped $800 million in Q4 2012.
- The strongest market growth was seen in the Caribbean and Latin America, with a 37% increase.
- Softswitches are still on the decline, however, consumer trends show that legacy softswitches are still being replaced with newer versions, as opposed to IMS technology.
“As we predicted, after 3 years of annual declines, the carrier VoIP and IMS equipment market turned the corner in 2012, growing 9% over the previous year due to strong IMS sales,” notes Diane Myers, principal analyst for VoIP, UC, and IMS at Infonetics Research. “It’s still early days for IMS equipment and applications for LTE, but a handful of operators are placing orders that are positively impacting revenue.”
