HP announced the new HP 5400R zl2 Switch Series, which is intended to help businesses make the switch from legacy network infrastructure to software-defined networks to enhance performance.
Legacy network infrastructure’s complexity and limitations on performance make it ineffective and outdated when compared to SDN infrastructure. SDN offers flexibility that allow organizations to implement new applications, provide quality service for end users, and align network activity with bottom-line goals. One of the most important features of SDN is that it has open standards that allow customers to avoid vendor lock-in; as many of you know, vendor-lock in can prohibit businesses from being able to take advantage of the latest innovations.
The HP 5400R zl2 Switch Series has OpenFlow support and, according to HP, delivers simplicity and agility to campus and branch networks. It reduces the total TCO, or total cost of ownership, by up to 43 percent.
“To keep pace with software developments and realize new business potential through cloud and mobile technologies, our customers are looking to modernize their networks,” said Antonio Neri, senior vice president and general manager, Servers & Networking, HP. “HP is committed to developing open networking solutions that allow our customers to take full advantage of new business applications and migrate to SDN when they are ready, without requiring a forklift upgrade of their current infrastructure.”
