Each year, Americans gather on the last Monday in May to honor those who have fallen in battle while serving in the Armed Forces. Though this holiday was originally known as Decoration Day, and started during the American Civil War (1861-1865), this particular holiday varies from Veteran’s Day in November in that only the deceased are recognized.
This holiday was traditionally celebrated with a visit to a local cemetery, where flags were placed upon the headstones of fallen soldiers. In addition, communities often held potluck picnics and religious services on the cemetery grounds.
Please note that the SMB Nation offices will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of this holiday. We wish you all a very happy weekend and we look forward to working with you again on Tuesday!
