As many of you know, today marks the 44th year of Earth Day. This day of action, which began in the US in 1970, featured peaceful demonstrations for environmental change. Originally observed on university campuses and in communities across the US, Earth Day went global in 1990, and is currently observed in 192 countries.
In the IT world, this emphasis on the reduction of carbon footprints and more energy-efficient methods of doing business has manifested itself across the community in a variety of ways. For example, Apple, Inc. was one of the pioneers of Green IT by reducing the amount of packaging it used for its products. In addition, many organizations are turning towards advanced telecommunications, which allows their workforce to work remotely.
D&H has also made great strides in the Green IT sector, outlined in our coverage here. Also, check out this infographic from the KP Corporation on the impact of Earth Day in the Office.
