This morning, Dell announced their new Cloud Client Computing for Retail solution at the 102nd NRF Convention and Expo in New York. This solution is designed to be an end-to-end offering for retailers.
The Dell Cloud Client Computing for Retail is tailored for retailers who are looking for cloud solutions that will integrate into their advanced PoS programs. The solution is made up of three modules, including an on-premise VDI, a cloud-based VDI and Mobile endpoints with or without POS peripherals, that allow the retailer to manage their inventory/PoS either in-store or via the cloud. Dell explained that the combination of mobility and better-informed customers drove the decision to create a more seamless solution for retailers.
“Until now, most retailers have had to cobble together products and services from multiple vendors in order to address cloud solutions and virtualization in their store environment,” explained Mike Adams, Retail Industry Practice Lead at Dell, in a press release today. “As a result of our recent acquisitions that include Wyse, SonicWALL and Quest, Dell is able to provide an end-to-end solution that has been tested and optimized for retail’s unique environment. Cloud Client Computing for Retail delivers a reliable, cost-effective, end-to-end solution that can allow access to any application from any device.”
Dell currently plans to release the full solution in three stages. In March, 2013, the company will release kiosk, PoS and Back Office systems that will be supported on-premise or via a retailer-hosted cloud. Summer of 2013 will bring the addition of surveillance hardware and digital signage. Finally, in Fall of 2013, Dell will give retailers the option for a Dell-hosted cloud infrastructure.
