This morning, Cbeyond, Inc. released news that their Certified Application Servers service is now generally available for SMBs. This service allows users to deploy their most commonly-used applications via the cloud, for access from any device.
According to a company press release, the driving force behind bringing this service into the SMB arena was a result of a December 2012 survey, in which 91% of SMBs replied that business applications would become critical to operations within the year of 2013.
The Cbeyond Certified Application Servers work by taking certified applications and their data to a private cloud, where the data will never touch the public Internet. Applications must undergo the following process by Cbeyond engineers to certify for these private clouds:
- Perform load, impairment and operational testing.
- Test applications at 1-100 Mbps to determine peak symmetrical bandwidth and errors/deterioration levels.
- Test across a wide range of technologies and platforms to ensure compatibility.
- Cloud server size selected based on app performance needs.
Cbeyond explained that many current CAS users are deploying simulations of production clouds to complete these requirements. Many of the applications can be taken to the cloud within a week of certification.
