We live in a SaaSy world where every morning you are often greeted by user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) surprises on your favorite platforms. This Monday morning turned out to be one of those days.
Seemingly over the weekend, LinkedIn got emotional.
As you can see in the figure, there are now multiple options for conveying your feelings about LinkedIn streams. In addition to the “like” thumbs up, there is now:
- Celebrate
- Love
- Insightful
- Curious
Figure 1: Check out the new LinkedIn emotional emoticons
The story is bigger than new art work. Whereas your Facebook page can best be thought of as an avenue for personal posts (see by “Strava Brags” for my cycling workouts), LinkedIn is quickly becoming the “Facebook” for business posts. I treat it that way myself and it works with respect to audience development and branding (conversions are a ‘hole ‘nother story).
In addition to tipping you off to the new emotional emoticons, I end with this. Early today I interviewed a prolific LinkedIn poster, Denis Wilson about his voodoo to build his business with daily articles. Bottom line? It works. And now I can tell Denis how I really feel with these additional feedback choices.
