Another leading, not lagging, indicator of the success of Office 365 is an emerging talent shortage to do the work. While the current administration in Washington DC hasn’t been able to capitalize on the (technically) robust US job growth (over 214,000 jobs were added in October and 2.3 million jobs created in 2014), you can leverage your Office 365 expertise for more goodness. The goodness could be in the form of higher pay, a better work environment, or a better work location. Basically so goes Office 365, so goes its talent market. You heard it here first – good times dead ahead.
Tour of Duty
In managing your professional career, there is the leadership argument that you need to do a tour of duty. In the oil industry, that would be an overseas deployment to round out your resume. In the world of Office 365, it could be a stint in Redmond close to the Microsoft mother ship. Fortunately, I was recently advised of such an opportunity in Redmond for three (3) Office 365 technical professionals. I wanted to share this with you for two reasons. First – the opportunity itself, posted below, might be a good fit for you. It’s certainly a step forward to say you’ve been to Redmond and worked with the gods. Perhaps the stars are aligned for you to be one of three lucky incumbents. Second – it underscores my original thesis. There is an emerging Office 365 talent shortage, and you will be impacted either as an employer seeking help or employee seeking a better situation. Even consultants and MSPs will notice the Office 365 skills gap in the community. It’s not going to get better anytime soon because of the Catch-22 nature of talent. You have to have experience to get the job but you need the job to get experience. And traditional training avenues, such as vocational-technical colleges through Universities, aren’t going to be able to respond fast enough.
Opportunity Example
Here is an example of a current opportunity, referenced previously. I have worked extensively with the hiring manager (tell him Harry sent ya). I can endorse this as a legitimate opportunity for your consideration.
