Lenovo announced the release of the ThinkServer RS140 on June 10, a new powerful, inexpensive entry-level single-processor 1U rack server. According to Lenovo, the server is ideal for SMBs because of its versatility, compact size, and expansion options.
“The Lenovo Enterprise Group is aggressively expanding its server offerings in the rack segment by adding a new 1P rack to our portfolio,” said Darrel Ward, vice president, Enterprise Product Group, Lenovo. “The new ThinkServer RS140 1P rack offers a remarkable combination of SMB friendly features and options, at an attractive, budget-friendly price point, that our customers have been looking for.”
The RS140 is available with a variety of processor choices, including the Intel Xeon E31200 v3 series processors, which, in part because of integrated graphic processing, are especially effective for data center edge systems serving graphic-intensive web content. It can also be configured with Intel family desktop processors such as Intel Core i3, Pentium, and Celeron.
Though the RS140 is compact at 16.2 inches deep, it supports up to 32GB of RAM and 8TB of internal storage. Lenovo suggests that its small size allows it to be used in space-restricted environments such as wiring closets or two post racks.
Intel’s AMT 9.0 remote network management tool provides remote access to diagnostics, maintenance, and monitoring of the RS140. This remote monitoring tool is useful, as many of you know, in multi-vendor environments.
Pricing for the ThinkServer RS140 starts at $549 and varies based on features and expansion options chosen.
